This week…well, every week I am obsessed with hotels, short-term rentals (STR), and their well-thought-out designs. Am I the only one that casually looks at gorgeous short-term rentals in ideal locations with no intention of booking them? Short-term rentals have become a favorite way to invest for many real estate investors and it’s not hard to see why financially. This is why so many people are now launching their own bnbs and creating more unique stays.
So hopefully that means we’ll start seeing less “basic” accommodations because there is nothing worse than a nightmare STR that’s creepy, a catfish…Or even worse have colored sheets!
I love this hotel design by Luke Edward Hall; it’s unexpected and an exploration of design and decor. It’s so easy to play it safe with design and go beige, neutral tones, and color inside the lines but there is nothing safe about this design. When I get to Paris next year Hotel Les Deux Gares is my first stop!
Meanwhile, in Palm Springs, Pulp Design Studio has created an eclectic glam space of its own. For $600 a night this Airbnb is my kind of accommodation. Every space looks so different but similar with an explosion of pattern and color, and I love that they chose to create three distinct bedrooms. It’s hard to choose but I think my favorite is the green deco room!
Also, this week, staying on top of my real estate and design projects I’ve been digging through standing desks and house plans. I think I need to consider an earlier wake-up time like back in my college days.
In other news, I’m designing my client’s office and I have been quite surprised by how far desks have come. She wants a standing desk in her office with USB ports and I honestly had no idea how popular they really are or how many variations there were.
In the land of real estate, I have a client…my parents, and they are looking for a specific type of house, a rancher/ rambler in Maryland and it’s hard to find. In Maryland real estate mostly consists of 3 story colonials. With that in mind, I’ve been playing with the idea of finding them a plot of land and a builder and a set of drawings that fit their aesthetic. I love this Mediterranean house plan now I just need to find a plot of land if they decide to go this route.
